Choose an image
Select a PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP file from your device. The image is opened locally and shown as a preview.
Convert a photo, scan, or picture into editable text with private OCR that runs directly in your browser. Choose an image, extract the words, then copy or download the result.
Small prioritizes accuracy. Tiny is faster with a smaller download; use Small for Japanese or to recheck important text. Models are saved for future visits when browser storage is available.
Files are processed locally in your browser. Images, PDFs, and extracted text are not uploaded to Umiocr.
This image to text converter turns printed words inside a picture into text you can edit, search, quote, or reuse. It is useful when the original content exists only as pixels—for example, a photographed document, a scanned page, a product label, or an image shared in a chat. The OCR image to text process detects text regions first and then recognizes the characters inside each region.
Unlike upload-based converters, Umi OCR performs recognition on your device with WebAssembly. Your image remains in the current browser tab and is not sent to Umiocr for processing. That makes the tool a practical choice for documents that may contain private notes, account details, internal instructions, or other sensitive text.
Recognition quality depends on the source. A straight, sharp image with readable contrast will usually produce a cleaner result than a blurred photo, heavily compressed JPG, decorative typeface, or handwritten note. The extracted text remains editable so you can correct names, numbers, punctuation, and layout before copying or downloading it.
Go from a local file to editable text in three steps.
Select a PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP file from your device. The image is opened locally and shown as a preview.
Select Extract Text. The OCR model detects text lines and recognizes their characters without uploading the image.
Review and edit the output, copy it to another app, or download a plain TXT file for later use.
Convert phone photos, book pages, printed forms, labels, and flatbed scans. Keep the page straight and fill the frame with the text you need.
The underlying OCR model supports multilingual printed text, including common Latin and East Asian scripts. Mixed-language pages can be processed in one pass.
Recognition happens inside the browser. Umiocr does not receive the selected image or the text produced from it, and no account is required.
